Turn off “ip domain-lookup”

If you mistype a command, the device will not try to translate it into an IP address. (takes 5 seconds to time-out)

Linuxsource-Switch1# test <--- with domain-lookup, it takes time :)
Translating "test"...domain server (255.255.255.255)

% Unknown command or computer name, or unable to find computer address

Linuxsource-Switch1(config)# no ip domain-lookup 
Linuxsource-Switch1(config)# test
                              ^

Linuxsource-Switch1(config)# exit
